F. D. O. S. -- Tears of Sorrow or Jumping for Joy??

Yes, I'm still here....we've just been super busy with the last days of Summer and the First Day of School!!!

Here are the pictures....
10th Grader!!

(She wasn't too thrilled because the cheerleaders had to all dress alike for the first day...polo shirt and flip flops that they made.  Normally, she loves the cheerleader spirit days....but not the very first day of school.  I thought she looked cute anyway!)

7th Grader!!!

The middle of Middle School!

3rd Grader!!!

The year of playing the recorder and learning cursive writing!

The Middle School bus stop.

The Elementary School bus stop!
(35 kids are at our Elementary School bus stop.....it looked like they weren't going to fit on the bus, but they did!)
And they're out of here!!!
So, what did I do????  First, I met some friends at Panera for Back to School Bagels....then I met up with another group of friends and went out to lunch at Mimi's Cafe and hit Tar-jay for some shopping.  I spent the last hour of my time back at home all by myself enjoying the sound of silence!!

Ahhhh.

Usually, I am sad on the first day of school.  I miss having the kids around.  This year though, no tears for me.  I am happy for them.  It is neat to think of all that lies ahead.  I am looking forward to seeing what the year brings for each one of them.

What about you???  What does the first day of school mean....

Tears of sorrow or..... Jumping for joy?????

Sorry, I took down the pics of my kids with the signs...because they had their real names on them....brain cramp!!  So, if you're just now reading this...imagine them all holding cute little signs with their names and grade!!!  ~Kath

The first day of school means I have to go back to work (school counselor) but it's also exciting because it means new kids to meet and old ones to reconnect with. I love my kids' first days, but my youngest is 10th grade and I wont have many more of those days!! I love the pictures! I can't believe they will hold up the sign for you!! They are beautiful kids!

Yea, we've always done the sign. By the time my oldest entered kindergarten I already realized there was no hope for me keeping up with all the pictures and scrapbooking. I started doing the signs so that I'd remember which picture was which year....and we've just kept the tradition.

My daughter just started kindergarden this week. I almost lost it when I left the school but didn't want hubby to see me cry. ;)

Kathi, please get in touche with me. You won my giveaway and I need your info! ;) My email is on your lost post, the giveaway.

Back to school was great at our house also. I loved the pictures with the kids holding signs. I will remember that for the future. You think you could never forget how old they are in pictures, but I know it will happen. That busstop with 35 kids has to be a record. Looks like they all had a great day. Thanks for blogging. I'll check back again.

Kathi, I think I came over and thanked you for visiting me on Monday, but I am not sure. Am getting a little confused with all of the thank you notes I have to write. I think I am about 1/2 way through.
I also ment to tell you that I live in Arlington. I am sure you know where that is since you lived in Everett. Gina is in Stanwood and Tricia in Vancover.
Washington is a beautiful state. I have lived in Georgia and Alaska also, but Washington is home.
I am sure you managed to enjoy your first day of school. I always relished the quiet.
Thanks again for coming to see me and I hope to see more of you here in Arlington Washington

I love that you have pics with the signs. It's too cute, and so helpful!
Back to school doesn't really mean much for me right now... but I'm sure it will one day :)

My baby is in 3rd grade. All she can dream about is getting to write in the "fancy grown ups way".. I can remember those days. Boy that bus fills up fast when they head your way. Our school is so close I just drop Madison off. Her brother and sister ride together.. My oldest drives now..scary!!

Well as you know.. our first day is a little different. We actually never really did an OFFICIAL first day. They are doing a co-op this year and that through us off a little.
Sounds like you had a great day! Have fun with all the QUIET TIME!!

I'll keep you posted on what I decide too about the HS thing...

Great first day of school pictures! Do you do that every year? I'll definitely have to remember to do that. Your kids are super cute, btw!

The first day of school, this year, meant screams of J.O.Y. It was time, I tell ya!

I have a child that went into the 10th grade and one into the 6th. Then there is my toddler!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and Colorado today!

The signs are such a great idea! I look back at my pictures and I can tell they were first-day-of-school pictures, but then I have to TRY to remember which year it was!

(So, though the pictures are great, did you realize we now know your kids' real names??)

Just stopping by again...

I always had mixed emotions on the first day of school for my kids, then I'd do exactly what you did...I'd head to Target!!

Wow! 35 kids at the bus stop?! I'll be jumping for joy here on Tuesday! I was looking forward to having them home at the end of last year but I've had enough now. Cute idea with the signs. My kids would be rolling their eyes.
Was reading your JB post also. I took my girls in July and we got to unexpectedly see the bus after the show too. You got some good photos....funny, they have the exact same clothes on as at our show.
BTW, thanks for stopping by the other day for BATW. Come back anytime. Love your blog.

Just stopping by...hoping you don't mind if I comment...I love the way that you document your kids first day of school...I wish that I had done that...now 5 of them have graduated, 2 married, 2 left in college, but I have one left in school that is a sophmore...I wish I had made signs, because I have all these pictures and don't know which year goes with which...very confusing.

Great job...you children are beautiful.

Visiting from Blog Around the World (better late than never!)...

The first day of school this year was a big one for us - our oldest started Kindergarten this year. It was the first day of several years of having at least 1 kiddo in "real" school. Surprisingly, I wasn't the slightest bit emotional about it. She was so excited about school, so I couldn't help but to be excited with her!

I love those pics and I love that they cooperated with you! And PS...in my best whisper voice...you posted their real names.... Today was our first day back...one of my neighbors has a mamosa party in the morning that I have attended, but this year I stayed home with my son so I could get him on the bus for pm kindergarten. My daughter is in third grade too!

Oh and I was somewhat joyful just because we have been together too much this summer. I missed them, but I didn't...if you know what I mean!

Hi Kathi, just visiting once more...

Looks like your children dutifully pose carrying the FDOS note. How'd you make them do it? :)
