Trifecta!

It has happened, the sun, the moon, and the stars must have all aligned themselves.....my 3 kids are away until tomorrow!  That's right, you read correctly.....all 3 kids....left Sat with GMa & GPa and won't get home until Tuesday afternoon!

We've hit the trifecta.  Believe it or not, this rarely happens. Both sets of grandparents watch our kids once a year while we have a work trip to attend, but other than that the trifecta rarely happens.

I can literally count on one hand the number of times that all 3 kids were gone....even for a few hours at someone else's house....and we were at home.

Staying at home with my kids is a decision I've never regretted. However, 13 years without a break is a long time.  Even though they are now all 3 in school, it seems as if the moments alone still are not enough.  Does that make any sense?  I don't know if it's our busyness, or if it will just take awhile for me to get there.

Lately, I have to confess, I've been feeling run down, worn out....kind of 'over it'...if you know what I mean.  Summertime will do that. This break has been such a blessing. Thank you, thank you, thank you...M & D.

This morning I came across a blog that a friend of a friend started.  (I told you I do that sometimes....it can be dangerous!)  Anyway, this couple just lost their baby boy a month ago. He was born healthy, went to the hospital for dehydration and things spiraled from there.  He ended up seeming to have one problem after another and eventually died.  He was just 6 months old.  I had been following their story the whole time Baby J was in Hopkins through their hospital website.  Today was the first time I'd read her blog.

Understandably, she speaks of unimaginable sorrow, and how she's just trying to survive each day.  She and her husband have 3 other kids.  Here is something she wrote:

"I pray for the millions of parents out there.  I pray that they know the true gift and miracle of being a parent and that they use that gift wisely.  May they see the magic in their child's eyes and NEVER take a single moment for granted."

Whew!  I think that one was for me.  I am hoping and praying that by the time my kiddos return tomorrow, I am rejuvinated, ready to engage, and ready to be a better mom.  I have much to be thankful for.  It is sometimes so easy to take it all for granted.

If you want to check out my friend's, friend's blog, her name is Amy and here is the link:

I wanted to leave you with a short funny story.  This was what I was originally going to post about today, it's funny how sometimes you sit down to write and something entirely different comes out.

At the beginning of the summer, some neighbors of ours were getting ready to have some work done on their home.  A small sign was placed in their front yard listing the company's name and # and a port-a-potty was delivered and placed on the side of the house.  We happened to be driving out of the neighborhood while the port-a-potty was being taken off the truck.

Mike TV was with me and he says to me:

Mike:  Cool, it looks like the Joneses (not their real names) are putting in a port-a-potty. Awesome!

Me:  I think they are getting their basement finished.  The port-a-potty is for the workers to use.

Mike:  Oh, so you mean when their basement is finished, they will take away the port-a-potty?

Me:  Yep.

Mike:  That is too bad.

Is that the way an 8 year old boy thinks, or what???  :)

Have a good day.  I'm out of here.

Out of the Mouths of Babes

This past weekend, Bri was away at our church's Men's Summit. It was just me and the gang and we actually had a pretty good weekend.   Saturday was filled up with Baseball, a Bday Party, and then Veruka & I went shopping.

Sunday morning I had to teach. I then left church and went directly to Oriole's Park at Camden Yards where they were having Little League Day.  Mike's baseball team was participating in their parade. Bri coaches his team, so he and a buddy left the Summit early to meet the boys before the parade.  Mike had spent the night at his friend's house and his Mom had driven him to the ballpark.  Of course our lesson was LONG this week and I got there just as the parade was ending....you know how those things are...Mr. Murphy and his Law were hard at work. Luckily, Gma & Gpa were able to go, so if I can get their pictures, I'll post some.  It is a pretty neat experience for the kids.  They get to walk (parade) around the field before the game and high five the O's players.  My boys have participated the past 3 years, and it is a really cool thing. (I mean, really, how many people can say that they got to walk around the field of a Major League Baseball team???)

I wanted to share a quick funny about my lesson that I taught on Sunday.  (As you may or may not know, Bri & I teach Kindergarten & First Grade Sunday school at our church.) This week's lesson was about money.  I talked about how everything we have comes from God, including our money. Since God gives us our money, He wants us to use it in good ways.  Some of those ways are:  saving it, giving it away, or spending it. It is okay to spend it, but that we need to be wise and not spend everything.  We did our whole lesson around this basic message.

Well, after class one of the little boy's Mommies came back, with a smile on her face, and told my friend who checks the kids in and out of the classroom, that she had asked her son what he learned in church today.....he told her he learned that "God loves money and God wants me to love money!"

(Hmmmm, maybe we might need some clarification this week.....Thankfully, this Mommie is a friend of mine!)      :)

Take Your Child to Work Day

Today is "Take Your Child to Work Day" and I just have time to share a quick funny with you. Two days ago, Veruka came up to me after dinner and said,

Veruka:  Mom, did you know Thursday is "Take Your Child to Work Day?"

Me:  Is it really?  I didn't know when it was.

Veruka:  Yep, well I was thinking....I've gone to work with Dad the past couple of years and this year I want to come to work with you.

Me:  But, I'm not subbing on Thursday.

Veruka:  Oh, I didn't mean that.

Me:  What did you mean then?

Veruka:  I wanted to come to your job as a Stay at Home Mom!

She's funny isn't she?  Needless to say, she went to school today.

Have a great day!  :)

PS.  Stay tuned.....exciting things are coming!

Cute Prayer

Monday night I was at a meeting and B put the kids to bed. Our Little Buddy was saying his prayers and he asked God to let him have a good Primary Election Day.

B said he was totally serious too.....not just day off school, or Election day, but PRIMARY Election Day!

Future politician??? Hmmm.

Real things my kids have said to me.

I love you.

You're the best Mommy in the whole wide world!

You're mean.

You're the meanest Mom in the world.

I bet all the other Mom's are nicer than you. (Yes, I'm sure they are.)

You're lucky because you got to have Grandma for a Mom and she's way nicer than you. (Hee hee, that one always makes me smile. This has been said about BOTH Grandmas!)

You never let me do anything.

I should be allowed to go to the party because ________ is going and her parents are strict like you guys.

Just drop me off and when you pick me up, don't talk.

My friends all think you are cool, but they don't know you.

Why do we have to get another minivan? I want a convertible Mustang. (Oh wait, sorry, that was me.)

Mom, don't let Dad do or say anything that would embarrass me. (As if I can control him!)

You never let me drink soda. When I turn 21 I am going to drink nothing but soda, soda, soda. (I should have gotten that one in writing!)

Actually, I'm glad you are my Mom.

I love you.

What do you want to be when you grow up????

So, Brian is driving in the car with Charlie and Mike and asks them,
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"

They think for a moment...and.....

Charlie answers, "I want to be an NFL football player."

Brian asks, "Why?"
Charlie replies, "Because it'd be awesome!"

Then Mike answers, "I also want to be an NFL football player." (Little brother is alot like Big brother!)

Brian asks Mike, "Why do you want to be an NFL football player?"

Mike replies without missing a beat,
"Three reasons, Dad.
The fans
the fame,
and the chicks!"
